Ludlow 239-7 Worfield 241-4

WILL Gough scored 88 to help Ludlow post a decent total when they met high-flying Worfield at Davenport Park.

But the target posed few problems for the home side.

They cruised home with six wickets and five overs to spare, a result which sends Ludlow into the bottom half of the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League.

Batting first, Ludlow made a solid start to their innings after losing an early wicket to a run out.

Sam Edwards and Gough added 90 for the second wicket, with Edwards going for 33 soon after his side had reached three figures.

Another wicket went down soon after, but then skipper Baden Wilton came to the wicket to help Gough take the score on to 177 before Gough fell 12 short of three figures, having faced 104 balls and struck six fours and two sixes.

Wilton kept the momentum going, making 60 off just 44 balls (seven fours and one six) to take the score past 200.

Tim Goldthorp (16) and Louis Watkins (16no) added quick runs towards the back end of the innings.

The Worfield openers started with a century opening-partnership before Watkins ran Will Cook out for 30.

His par tner Tom Matthews reached three figures before being bowled by Simon Miles to make the score 183-3.

Any hopes of a collapse were soon dispelled as Matt Turner went on to make an unbeaten 67 at better than a run-a-ball, and see Worfield home.

Ludlow 2nd suffered a heavy defeat at The Burway after they lost the toss and were invited to bat by Worfield in bowler-friendly conditions.

Ludlow were shot out for 86 and the visitors coasted home in 17 overs for the loss of four wickets.

The Ludlow top-order was blown away, leaving skipper Will Wood to fight a lone battle.

He adopted a positive approach, making 30 off just 23 balls before missing a straight one from Piers Rouwenhorst (3-26) Last wicket pair Nathan Giles (18no) and Andrew Hillman (11) salvaged some pride with a useful partnership.

Robert Weir (4-11) caused a lot of problems for the Ludlow batsmen.

The Worfield reply got away to a flying start, before Nathan Giles (2-19) checked the flow of runs for a while.

Rouwenhorst (19no) and Will McGarry (17no) completed the win .
