LUDLOW lost four wickets for three runs as they crashed to defeat against a a Broseley side who were languishing at the bottom end of the Marston’s Shropshire County Premier League.

When Ludlow reached 150-4, and then 182-6, at the Burway, they looked on target for a win but a debatable catch, followed by a dramatic collapse, left the visitors celebrating a narrow 22-run win and a move off the bottom of the table at the expense of Newtown.

It was a similar story in the first innings when Ludlow reduced Broseley to 131-7, but a swashbuckling innings of 59 off just 36 balls (with 12 fours) from late-order batsman Ryan Dobson left them chasing a testing target of 208.

Baden Wilton and Luke Miles took early wickets after Ludlow had won the toss and elected to field first.

Kelvin Rogerson (36) found a useful ally in W Niavi (23). They went in quick succession and Ludlow looked to be in a strong position as wickets tumbled to Wilton (2-61), Luke Miles (2-30), Louis Watkins (3-29) and Simon Miles (2-33).

When Ludlow batted, Sam Edwards (28) and Tim Goldthorp built a steady partnership for the second wicket until both of them fell with the score on 54. Will Gough (56) and Rob Genner (28) must have thought their side was heading for victory when the score reached 133-3.

Wickets tumbled from this point and skipper Wilton was left to rue batting at number seven when he was left undefeated on 10 when the final wicket went down in the 41st over.

􀁥 Broseley 2nd had just six players at the start of their home game with Ludlow 2nd and, although they managed to draft in a couple more, they were bowled out for just 69 in 20 overs.

And this after their openers had both reached double figures.

Ludlow went on to record a hollow nine-wicket win in fewer than 10 overs.

Andrew Hillman (3-21) and Ed Rayen (2- 12) had to work for their first wicket, but then skittled the rest. Richard Taylor (31no) and Shaun Morris (35) hustled Ludlow to the win.
