CLEOBURY Mortimer Golf Club youngster Gavin Bower became the first junior member to hit a hole-in-one at the 232-yard eighth hole on the Deer Park course.

He is the first junior, and only the fourth player in total, to achieve this distinction, at the club’s toughest par-three hole.

Gavin hit a three wood which pitched just short of the green and kept rolling - and rolling - until it disappeared.

Another youngster, Robin Craig scored a huge 46 points to win Division 2 of the Men’s Summer Jam Stableford competition, a round which saw his handicap cut to 15.

He finished five points clear of runner-up Neil Burgoyne.

Phil Lau with 41 points, who like Craig was another late starter in a huge field, pipped Matt Broad on countback to win Division 1. Broad and Burgoyne had led the field for much of the day.

This special event offered free putting and short-game analysis to all the competitors before they started their round.
