Canon Frome 82 Tenbury Wells 85-1

TENBURY pulled off a quick-fire win at bottom side Canon Frome, but still lost ground at the top of Division 4 in the Worcestershire League.

Tenbury, who won the toss and inserted Frome, remain second after picking up 20 points. They are 14 points adrift of Stourbridge Social who, like third-placed Alveley, picked up a maximum 24 points.

Canon Frome started cautiously but, once they lost their openers, wickets tumbled regularly to Ed Corfield and Bruce Mason, with number nine batsman Nicko Evans top-scorer on 13.

Canons were bowled out in 29 overs, with Corfield (5-42 off 14 overs) picking up his first five-wicket haul for the club. Mason finished on 3-30 off 12 overs while Aaron Morris (2-1) mopped up the tail.

Tenbury made short work of forcing the win, getting home in just 15 overs for the loss of one wicket. Andy Adams (29) dominated an opening partnership with Tom Pugh who survived a couple of sharp chances. Jay da Costa (15no) helped Pugh (23no) through to the win.

􀁥 Tenbury 2nd consolidated their position at the top of their division with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Canon Frome 2nd at Penlu.

Tenbury restricted Canons to 146-8 in their 45 overs after opting to bowl first and then knocked the runs off for the loss of just two wickets inside 40 overs.

Matthew Richards (29) and James Hughes (43) gave the visitors a solid start, but once they fell to Stephen Giles the innings disintegrated.

Giles went on to take two more wickets and finished up with 4-30 off his allotted 12 overs.

Ian Taylor proved to be just as frugal, taking 3-27 off 10.

Chris Giles received support from Darren Thompson (11), Kier Sellars (23) and finally David Hunt (33no) as Tenbury coasted towards victory.

Giles had just completed his half-century before they reached the winning line, striking seven boundaries on the way.
