Ludlow 246-6 Quatt 249-6

LUDLOW rattled up a decent score at The Quatt Oval, but the home side passed their target with 16 balls and four wickets to spare to consolidate their second place in the Marston’s Shropshire County Premier League.

Ludlow are fourth.

The Ludlow top eight all contributed towards the final total after Baden Wilton won the toss and elected to bat.

Sam Edwards (16) and then Matt Hawes (12) helped Wilton (37) lay the platform with a patient approach.

Rob Genner and Will Gough (28) took the score past three-figures and when Genner (49) was out the score was approaching 200.

A late flurry from Louis Watkins (26no) and Dave Proctor (14no) boosted the final total.

Thomas Whitney and Eugene McCarney (36) scored at better than a run-a-ball until Luke Miles (2-29) claimed two wickets. Whitney (73) went at 154, but Adrian Evans (60), Craig Jones (24) and Terry Hughes (30no) saw Quatt home.

Sam Edwards finished with (3-43) 􀁥 Jake Stokes took 5-1 to help Ludlow 2nd pull off a thrilling onewicket win when they entertained Quatt 2nd at The Burway.

The visitors were cruising at 151-5 batting first, but then lost their last five wickets for just five more runs, bowled out for 156 in the 35th over.

With 65 overs available to them, the Ludlow openers dug in but, once they were out, wickets tumbled and it needed a last-wicket stand to see the hosts creep home with just four balls to spare.

At 49-3 and 70-4 the game was open, but when the Quatt fifth-wicket pair took the score past 150 a big total looked to be on.

Stokes conceded nine runs from his first over, but a spell of 5-1 in 2.2 overs turned the game around.

Stokes took two wickets in two balls, but skipper Will Wood dropped a catch off the hat-trick ball. Alex Drury (3-24) was the other successful bowler for Ludlow.

Shaun Mor ris (55) and Richard Taylor (32) battled bravely against some hostile bowling, but it needed a last-wicket stand of 15 between Rob Taylor (14no) and Andrew Hillman to ease Ludlow home.
