Alveley 257-7 Tenbury Wells 203-8

TENBURY were knocked off the top of Worcestershire League Division 4 when they ran into a whirlwind performance from Alveley’s batsman Josh Bent.

The South African overseas player came in at number four and smashed 168 out of 257 for the home side before falling to Aaron Morris with four overs top go.

Tenbury were unable to get into a position to attempt to force the win, but managed to play out time for a losing draw and frustrate Alveley, another candidate for the title.

Stourbridge Social head the table by 10 points.

Ed Corfield and Bruce Mason (3-61) took early wickets, setting the stage for Bent to take the innings over. He was dropped on 96 but, otherwise, produced a faultless display.

Will Rodenhurst (17) and Richard Twigg (33) played useful supporting roles. Aaron Morris (3-64) took late wickets, taking revenge for an earlier pummelling.

Tom Pugh (26), Andy Adams (19) and Bruce Mason (40) made useful contributions at the top of the Tenbury reply, but in the end they were indebted to 45 apiece from middle-order batsmen Jonathan Pearson and Ed Corfield.

􀁥 Tenbury 2nd ran out easy winners when they met Alveley 2nd at Penlu and now lead their division by 14 points.

They bowled the visitors out for 87 to win by 112 runs after posting 199-7 before tea.

Batting at number four, David Hunt completed a half-century and received sound support from Ian Taylor (33) after Kier Sellars and Darren Thompson had opened the innings with double-figure scores.

Jim Yeomans (5-43) and Adrian Edwards (3-33) destroyed the Alveley innings with Sellars (2- 3) mopping up the tail.
