Bishop’s Castle 95 Willey 73

BISHOP’S Castle looked to be heading for defeat in Division 2 of the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire County League when Willey raced to 50-2 in nine overs, needing just 46 runs to complete the win.

However, Simon Palmer, who had figures of 0-20 at this stage, produced a devastating spell of bowling to turn the game around. He took 6-3 in 12 overs to bowl Willey out for 73 and a 22-run defeat.

Castle struggled with the bat themselves, five batsmen reached double figures, but none of them scored 20.

Useful runs from the last three batsmen proved crucial in the final analysis.

Stuart Sheppard (27) was the danger man but once Palmer dismissed him the rest folded and Castle went on to consolidate their lead at the top.
