Halesowen 206-9 Cleobury Mortimer 211-4

BEN Griffiths was in top form with both bat and ball when Cleobury Mortimer beat visiting Halesowen 3rd by six wickets in Division 5 of the Worcestershire County League.

Griffiths took four wickets and followed up with an unbeaten century to lead his side home with plenty to spare.

Halesowen batted first after losing the toss, and their innings of 206-9 was centred around a halfcentury from opener Jack Windsor and 33 from middleorder batsman Aaron Kisiel.

Griffiths finished with 4-52 off 13 overs while David Shorter and James Manley claimed two wickets apiece.

Grif fiths batted at number three and struck five sixes and 13 fours in his score of 101.

He received support from Craig Shorter (36) and David Shorter (22), and saw Cleobury over the line in the 38th over.

􀁥 Cleobury 2nd did not fare as well when they travelled to play Halesowen 4th.

The home side rattled up 249-5 batting first and then bowled Cleobury out for 127 to win by 122 runs.

The Cleobury bowlers struggled to take wickets, with Kester Moseley reaching a century before offering a return catch to Ed Kemp (2-53). Sarfraz Zahoor (6-42) carved through Cleobury’s top-order, before Alex Howman (50 no) and John Grif f iths (21) of fered some resistance.

Coombs Wood 205-6 dec Knighton-on-Teme 138-8 (winning draw for Coombs Wood in a rain-affected game)

A BIG partnership between Dean Goodway (60 not out) and Carl Badger (68) took this weather- interrupted match away from Knighton after Dan Pullen had given them the edge with two early wickets.

Coombs Wood went on to reach 205-6 before declaring their innings after rain had held up play.

Requiring 146 in 29 overs to claim a winning draw, Matthew James (17) got them away to a flier. Wickets then tumbled until John Grif fiths (36), Tom Whistance (24) and Richard Smith (19) restored the balance.

With wickets running out, the challenge proved to be just out of their range and they had to settle for a losing draw, eight runs short of their objective.
