THE former head of Tenbury Primary School has died at the age of 72.

Roy Conod, who was born near Leominster, was in charge at both Lord Scudamore and Shobdon in Herefordshire during his long teaching career which also took in jobs at Hampton Dene School in Hereford and Tenbury.

He met his future wife, Joan, in Cyprus where both were teaching.

They later married at Eye Church near Leominster in 1968 and went on to have two children, Lara and Luke.

Towards the end of his teaching career, Roy voluntarily enrolled on a degree course at Worcester after regretting not taking the degree route when he did his training.

He retired in 1993, bringing to an end a career spanning several decades.

Roy and Joan had lived in Hereford since 2002 having moved from Orleton, north Herefordshire.

He died peacefully at St Michael’s Hospice, near Hereford, last month.

His funeral was held at Eye Parish Church.

His wife and children said: “We have been overwhelmed by the messages of support, condolences and attendance at the funeral from so many of Roy’s family, friends and colleagues.

“Roy died peacefully at St Michael’s Hospice where the support and care they gave to him and his family was unceasing.”
