PEOPLE in Ludlow are being reminded to clean up after their dogs - and properly dispose of their rubbish – or risk having to pay up.

The warning comes after Shropshire Council’s street cleaning warden issued on-the-spot £80 fines – or fixed penalty notices – to two dog owners in Ludlow in the space of a week for failing to clean up their dogs’ mess.

The fines were issued at the eco-park and Temeside.

A third fixed penalty notice (FPN) was issued in the same week for fly tipping after a black sack was found dumped at Castle Street car park recycling banks. Information within the sack was used to identify the culprit.

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, warned that dog owners not clearing up after their pets are unacceptable.

"These fines should help persuade the few irresponsible dog owners in Ludlow to clear up after their dog wherever it fouls in and around the town,” she said.

“It is simply not acceptable to let your dog run off the lead and not clear up after it.

“Though we now have wardens based across the area and the county, unfortunately they cannot be everywhere so we do urge people to report any problems of dog fouling to Shropshire council so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.”

Shropshire council has five officers based in the south west of the county, who have been specially trained to respond to people’s calls for tougher enforcement on dog fouling.

To report a problem with dog fouling, fly tipping, graffiti, fly posting or litter in your area call 0345 678 9006, or alternatively report a problem online at shropshire.gov.uk/environmentmaintenance.
