Ludlow Town Colts 0 Oswestry Boys Club 5

AFTER holding their own for 75 minutes at the SBS Stadium, Ludlow were disappointingly taken apart in the final 15 minutes and went down heavily to a side who are still hoping to clinch the Shropshire Alliance title.

The final scoreline certainly flattered the winners but Ludlow can have few complaints as they failed to tuck away their chances.

Once again, Ludlow were grateful for their AGP artificial pitch. With the two grass pitches unplayable the match was switched to the all-weather surface.

In the opening exchanges, Kelvin Powell ran on to a ball from Alley Carvell but was unable find the target with his shot. Rob Taylor and Powell both had shots blocked while Craig Simkiss grazed the bar with another fine effort.

In an entertaining game, there were chances at the other end as well, and from one of these Oswestry took the lead on 35 minutes with a neat finish from a ball over the top.

This was the only goal of the half.

Martyn Jones, Taylor and Carvell all missed chances as the Colts enjoyed a good third quarter.

Their best chance came when Ashley Oliver played in Powell, but Simkiss was not able to respond quickly enough when the Oswestry keeper pushed his shot on to the post.

Worse was to follow as the visitors extended their lead.

With tiredness creeping in and a mountain to climb, the Colts were over-run in the closing stages, they conceded three more goals.
