LUDLOW doctors are urging people who are vulnerable to get themselves protected against flu.

The call has come from Dr David Partridge, a GP at the Station Road surgery.

He says that it is especially important for people who are at risk to have the jab that provides protection against normal winter influenza and swine flu.

“We are particularly keen that pregnant women should have the injection,” said Dr Partridge.

“It seems that women who are pregnant are especially vulnerable and the potential consequences for them can be particularly serious.”

He said that other people who are a priority are those over the age of 65 and people with particular medical problems such as heart or respiratory conditions.

“Since the autumn we have inoculated more than 2,100 people which is very good but there are some doses left and we would like to see those people who need the injection.

“Most people who need the jab know who they are but this may not be the case with all pregnant women.”

He said that the injection contained a combined dose protecting against winter flu and swine flu.

Dr Partridge added that there had not been any specifically identified cases of swine flu but that it is a concern.

Anyone who thinks they need the flu jab is asked to contact the surgery by calling 01584 872461.
