AFTER an afternoon of fluctuating fortunes, Ludlow's Shropshire Premier Cricket League fixture at Newtown ended in a disappointing tame draw.

After Ludlow, whose innings had certainly been a mixture of highs and lows, had declared five overs early leaving the home team with 55-overs to reach their target. A good finish looked to be in prospect when they required 120 off the final 20 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Newtown lost wickets at this vital stage and blocked out the remaining overs to finish 66 runs short with three wickets in hand.

After losing the early wicket of Ross Wharton, Shannon Tubb joined Dave Bottoms (19) to take the score to 62 before a collapse saw the visitors in some trouble at 80-5.

Majestic

At this point Tubb who was well into his stride found a useful partner in Pete Milner. The pair added 104 before Milner was out in the 38th over for 39 off 58 balls.

Tubb was eventually the seventh man out having scored a majestic 136 off just 114 balls. Ben Andrews and Tom Tench were both undefeated on 12 as Mark Porteous called a close to the innings after 45 overs at 265-8.

Milner in his more accustomed roll of bowler took an early wicket before D Grant with a pedestrian 63 and P Bennett with an enterprising 51 took the score past the three-figure mark. Tubb (2-85) removed Bennett and then just as a good finish looked to be in prospect, Steve Hood got among the wickets to dash the ambitions of the home team. He finished with 4-53 off 22 overs as they batted out time to finish on 200-7.
