PETER Milner produced a devastating spell of bowling at the Burway on Saturday to destroy the Perkins batting line-up and lead his side to a comfortable 75-run confidence boosting win in the Proactive Shropshire County Premier League.

He moved the ball both ways to cause problems to all the batsmen and finished up with his best-ever figures of 8-32 off 17.3 overs including seven maidens. He completed the rout by bowling the last two batsmen in consecutive balls to start his next game on a hat trick.

If Ludlow had some doubts about their batting ability after two batting failures they were gradually eradicated as they produced a good solid batting display over 50 overs. Matthew Hawes and Milner offered Ross Wharton steady support as the first two wickets put on 48 runs.

Dave Bottoms then joined Wharton in a partnership of 92 before both fell at 140. Wharton struck 70, his third score of over 50 this season, before being run out, whilst Bottoms scored 40 before becoming the first of Garry Williams' four victims. Willie Moore (22) and Alex Robinson (14no) injected momentum into the latter overs to leave the home side with a competitive total of 182-8 at the close.

In spite of often beating the bat, Milner had to wait until the score reached 35 before making the breakthrough. He then shifted three batsmen for the addition of 15 runs. When Pete Ezzard (2-44 off 13) joined in the fun to dismiss the dangerous Wendall Wagner, Ludlow's first win without an overseas player for five tears was on the cards.

The wickets kept tumbling and Perkins were dismissed in the 36th over for 107.
