OPEN MEETING: The Church Stretton Area Partnership is due to host a meeting in Hope Bowdler Village Hall, next Tuesday, when members of the public are invited to attend.

n COUNTRY DANCING: Saturday is the date for the next evening of country dancing in Ticklerton Village Hall, from 8pm.

n COUNTRY MARKET: Church Stretton Country Market is open at Mayfair Community Centre, every Friday, from 8.45-10.30am.

For sale are cakes, produce, preserves and craft items.

If anyone would like to join the team which provides these items they should ask for details at the market.

This was previously known as the WI Market, but the name has been changed to reflect the fact that being a WI member is not a pre-requisite when joining the team.

n APPLE FAIR: Church Stretton will be hosting an apple fair on Sunday, October 24, in the Silvester Horne Institute, from 11am-4.30pm.

n RNLI: A cheese and wine evening to raise funds for equipment for Barmouth Lifeboat Station is being hosted by the local branch of the RNLI in Mayfair Community Centre, on Friday, October 22, from 7- 9.30pm. Ring 01694 724371 for tickets.

Donations to Richard Turner Jones, of 17 Alison Road, Church Stretton, would also be most welcome.

n RAIL USERS: At the meeting of The Church Stretton and District Rail User's Association, due to be held in the United Reformed Church Hall next Wednesday, Mr David Skitt will be giving an illustrated talk on the history and operation of the Severn Valley Railway. The meeting opens at 7.30pm and all are welcome.

n WINE TASTING: An evening of wine tasting is set to take place in Hope Bowdler Village Hall, on Friday, October 22, at 7.30pm.

n SCHOOL NEWS: Next Wednesday, Church Stretton School holds its open evening and invites parents and prospective parents to see what is on offer.

The following evening, Thursday, October 21, from 5.30-7.30pm, St Lawrence's Primary School will host a parents' open evening.

In International Walk to School Week, St Lawrence's Primary School pupils were encouraged to do just that.

Those who took part were rewarded with a bright sticker!

A number of St Lawrence pupils have been awarded swimming badges for completing Water Skills 1, and Water Skills 4, and distance swims of 10, 20, 25 and 50 metres. The school does need another school time lifeguard, so anyone interested in training for this position should contact the office on 01694 722682.

n SWIM SESSIONS: Starting this month Church Stretton Pool will open from 8-9am for length swimmers. Other sessions available are: Tuesdays, 12.15-1pm, Swim for Fitness, 3.30pm-6pm, children's swimming lessons, Thursdays, 7.30-9pm, lane swimming followed by water polo for the over eights. On Fridays, lane swimming is from 7-8pm and on Saturdays from 9-10am. From 10-11am: open family swim.

WILDLIFE: Amphibians and pond life are the subjects of a talk tomorrow (Friday), for Shropshire Wildlife Trust, when the speaker will be Viv Green.

The meeting will be held in the United Reformed Church Hall, at 7.30pm. All welcome.
