Historical Society: The guest speaker at the September meeting was Joyce Bunce, who spoke about some of the local characters who lived in and around the district of Corvedale, where she lived and taught.

To complement the ever-popular holly and mistletoe sales at Tenbury, which take place in a few weeks' time, the guest speaker at the society's meeting tonight (Thursday) will be Mr Stan Yapp, a Tenbury man who is an expert on mistletoe.

We meet in the Pump Rooms at 7.30pm. On November 11 we are due to hold our AGM, in the Pump Rooms, again at 7.30pm.

Hopefully the business side of things will not take long, because it will be followed by two short talks: Hop Picking Memories and 13th Century Tenbury People.

The Christmas party is planned for Thursday, December 9, at 7.30pm, in the Royal Oak, Tenbury. Tickets will be £10. If you are interested, contact Howard Miller or Shirley Hambleton.

n Ladies' Guild: Joyce Griffiths, the chairwoman opened the meeting by sharing a poem called Memories.

Orders were taken for the Christmas dinner, due to be held in The Talbot, Newnham Bridge, on Monday, December 5.

The speaker was the Rev Bob Murrin, the chaplain for Kemp Hospice, who spoke on The Adventures of a Hospice Chaplain Abroad. A talented artist, poet, essayist and raconteur, Bob had compiled books on his adventures consisting of poems, drawings and essays. These were so humorous that he had us all in a constant state of laughter.

The next meeting is due to take place on Monday, November 1, when Mrs Gladys Hoskins will talk on'Life as a Land Girl.
