I READ on your front page today (Tenbury Advertiser, October 7) that the town centre manager Anthony Collis suggests that the name Tenbury Wells is changed to Tenbury on Teme.

What a shame that Mr Collis didn't wait a few days until the Eurostat Yearbook was published with its map of the UK that did not show Wales.

Mr Collis could then have suggested, equally ludicrously, that we call our town Tenbury near the Sea.

Perhaps Mr Collis would be better occupied trying to preserve items of interest to visitors rather than thinking of new names for Tenbury Wells.

In a letter in the same edition of the Advertiser, Chris Dell listed the facilities and places of interest that he thought Tenbury is likely to lose because of the action, or inaction, of a number of councillors and council employees.

One must agree with Mr Dell when he urges the public to be active in combating these losses.

It would be a pity if, through apathy, Tenbury did get another name, though unofficial, of Tenbury the Ruined.

That would, indeed be a tragedy.

Oldwood Common,

Tenbury Wells.
