RE the proposal to close the Broad Gate to traffic (Advertiser, October 7). In 1998 Councillor Alison Cundall and two Broad Street residents organised surveys and distributed them to people living in the area surrounding the Broad Gate.
They had decided to organise the questionnaire as residents then felt closure of the Broad Gate was a major issue.
The response from the public was predominantly against the idea. Now it has been raised again. Just think what Brand Lane will be like with everything trying to get out into Old Street.
Also, King Street would be affected with everything trying to get into town. The hold ups in Old Street would be a nightmare.
I agree with Ian Leslie. I suggest putting traffic lights either side of the gate, like those on the Bull Ring, controlling the traffic that goes through.
I don't think there's ever been a fatal accident with people walking through the gate. They just take extra care.
I hope the public has a chance to comment again on this important matter.
What next is going to happen to Ludlow? I hate to think.

Bromfield,
Ludlow.
