McCartneys recently held the first of their October store sales at Ludlow Market.
An excellent entry of 3,900 store sheep were forward, breeding ewes and feeding lambs. There was a prize class for the best pen of lambs for further fattening, which was won by Clun Valley farmer Roy Richards, Garn Farm, Newcastle. His Texel cross lambs made £45, bought by a Worcestershire purchaser.
It was also the Grand Autumn Show and Sale of store cattle and approximately 600 cattle were catalogued with a prize tankard for the best pen of cattle in the yard.
Worcestershire farmer. Edward Holloway won the trophy for the second year running, taking first prize in both the steer and heifer classes. The hampion Charolais cross steers weighed in at 540kg and realised £595 a piece.
