Ludlow 1 Pershore 4

FACING their toughest opponents to date in the Coaching Solutions Midlands League 2, Ludlow were justified in feeling hard done by after ending the losers in a game which proved far tighter than the scoreline suggested.

The first half was all Ludlow with Pershore rarely getting out of their half and the home team did however score one goal when a Roger Furniss inspired free hit routine ended up with skipper Paul Chubb grabbing a well deserved goal.

The second half was very similar only this time Pershore benefited from some undeserved luck to find themselves with a 2-1 lead.

These two quick-fire goals were a big blow to Ludlow but while they stuck to their task, it was not made easier by having to suffer a disallowed goal and then saw another shot crash back off the post.

If that wasn't bad enough, Pershore then grabbed two further goals which effectively killed off the game -- even though Ludlow appeared to be still dominating the play.

As a spokesman for the team said afterwards: "This result is a mystery. Quite how a team can out-play and out-pass and out-skill their opponents and not win the game will probably never be known. But that's sport!"

This Saturday, Ludlow once again need to display some 'bouncebackability' when they travel to Coventry to play Standard. This will be a game they must win if they are to get back onto the coat-tails of the league leaders.
