SOUTH Shropshire Access Group has given Ludlow Library an award for its services to blind people.
The library was put forward for the award after Carol Flight, a member of staff, decided to learn hand sign language to help a regular visitor to the library, who is blind and deaf.
The library already has a computer system which offers a full screen reader with magnification, speech and Braille support, but Carol felt that by learning hand sign language she would be able to add to the support that the librar y could offer.
Ludlow librarian Gillian Mortimer said: “We are so pleased to receive this award.
Carol learnt the hand sign language in record time and it has made a real difference for library user Julie Litten when she visits the library. In fact, Julie has now become a volunteer at the library.”
