Four south Shropshire businesses on shortlist for Countryside Alliance award

FOUR businesses from south Shropshire are on the shortlist for an award from the Countryside Alliance.

The Community Shop and Post Office in Lydbury North and Bromfield Post Office in Ludlow will be contesting the village shop/post office category.

At the same time, the Organic Smokehouse in Clunbury and Ludlow Food Centre will fight it out for the rural enterprise award.

“These finalists represent the very best of the region and I know that judging winners in each category is going to be ver y tough,” said Clare Rowson, West Midlands regional director of the Countryside Alliance. “The awards are a great opportunity to celebrate not just the hard work that goes into businesses in the countryside, but also the heart and character of every individual who contributes to rural enterprise.”

Regional winners will be announced before Christmas and will go into a national final early in 2010.

I'm not so sure I'd want to be associated with the CA if I had a business, there is a lot of bad feeling about their refusal to accept the huinting ban which could well backfire on a business winning a CA award by ethical customers boycotting the shop

Awards from the Countryside Alliance? That's like getting good community commendations from Robert Mugabe!

If I were one of these businesses, I would be ashamed to receive an award from a bloodsports lobby. If all their time and money was spent on real issues in the countyside, rather than on legal attempts to overturn the hunting act, we would probably have saved all the pubs and post offices by now.

Imagine being given an award by the bloodsports lobby! These people will do anything to appear as part of the mainstream rural community but don't be fooled. They have one ambition and that is to overturn the hunting act so they can go back to killing wildlife in the most inhumane of ways!

If I were involved with any of these shops, I would be wary of being involved with the Countryside Alliance. All these people want is more publicity for their real aim which is to bring back fox hunting and hare coursing. Shame on them. Please sign my NoToHareCoursing E-Petition at - http://petitions.num
