TALK - The current and past chairmen of the Welsh Marches Humanist Group will jointly be presenting a talk on humanist philosopher and peace campaigner Bertrand Russell on Tuesday at 7.30pm at The Friend’s Meeting House, St Mary’s Lane. FRIENDS OF LUDLOW LIBRARY - The next meeting will be held at 7:30pm on November 19, in the library’s meeting room. The speaker for the evening is Professor James Harris who will be talking about the iconic American magazine The New Yorker. Entry is £2 for members and £3 for nonmembers, including tea/coffee after the talk. All are welcome.
FAIR TRADE CHRISTMAS FAIR - Traidcraft’s mission is to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help poor people in developing countries transform their lives.
Ludlow’s Traidcraft Christmas fair is on November 21,10am to 4pm at the Ludlow Conference Centre, Lower Galdeford. Entrance is free.

FISHY BUSINESS - at Dinham Millennium Green on Saturday there are hopes salmon may provide a spectacle by leaping Castle Weir. “The salmon were seen last weekend, leaping the weirs throughout Ludlow, and we are hopeful of seeing them at Dinham on November 7,” said David Edwards, vice-chairman of Dinham Millennium Green Trust. As part of events to celebrate the initiative to restore the Mill on the Green, the trust is organising a presentation on river health and fish by fisheries specialist Chris Bainger, and a question and answer session will be chaired by angling publisher, Merlin Unwin. The event will be held in the Mill on the Green with free entry at 11am. Call event organiser David Edwards on 01584 861680 to let him know if you hope to attend.
LUDLOW AND DISTRICT HEART SUPPORT GROUP - The group meets at St John Ambulance HQ, Smithfield Car Park, on the second Friday of the month at 7.30pm, September to May. Expert speakers and specialists give talks and useful information on all aspects of heart disease. There is an annual subscription of £1 per person and 50p per meeting towards the tea, coffee and biscuits and hire of the hall. Call Fay Lund on 01584 875643 for more information.
LUDLOW CASTLE BOWLING CLUB - This is a friendly mixed crown green bowling club with ages ranging from ten to 90-plus. LUDLOW CIVIC SOCIETY - The society offers a programme of lectures and twice-yearly newsletter Ludlow Heritage News.
It meets at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on the second Wednesday of the month, the next being on Wednesday at 7.30pm, in Oscars.
Entry costs £2 for members and £3 for visitors. The talk will be presented by Jean Brown and Norman Grimmett based on their booklet, Rickards of Ludlow – Ironmongers for 140 Years. Copies will be on sale on the night. The society believes in maintaining the historic integrity and future vitality of Ludlow through well-planned and sympathetic development and so the society promotes and encourages the highest standards of architecture and planning and stimulates interest in the care, beauty, character and history of our special town.
