WASTELESS SOCIETY -The annual meeting will take place on November 3, at 7.30pm, in the Wasteless Society/Lightfoot Office (entrance is from New Street, under the spiral staircase).

MICHAELMAS METHODIST FUNDS - Refreshments served in Bishop’s Castle Methodist Hall during the Michaelmas Fair weekend raised £140, to be divided between the Methodist Relief and Development Fund and Bishop’s Castle Methodist Church.

CONCERT FOR CHRISTIAN AID - A recent concert and supper at the home of Sarah and Kate Screen raised £430 for Christian Aid.

STRICTLY MORRIS DANCING - A film that takes the lid off the world of Morris dancing comes to the SpArC Theatre in Bishop’s Castle tomorrow (Friday). Morris: A Life with Bells On looks beyond the beards, bells and handkerchiefs to the political and competitive side of the English folk dance scene. Can the Millsham Morris men and their avant-garde leader Derecq Twist win through at the Morris Circle dance-off? Come to SpArC at 7.30pm to find out. Bedlams and Martha Rhodens very welcome.

HALF TERM HALLOWEEN - Book now for three days of Halloween fun at SpArC in Bishops Castle. The workshops, aimed at eight to 18- year-olds, start on October 28, with spooky craft activities from 10am to 4pm. Those taking part can help decorate the SpArC foyer with scary mobiles and hangings, make hats and costumes and even learn to carve a pumpkin. On October 29, storyteller Sal Tonge will be sharing a few of her ghost stories and helping to create a song based on The Scary Hand. The rhymes and song will be performed to parents and friends in the SpArC Theatre the next day, with the hats, props and costumes made earlier in the week. October 30 is the day everyone gets a chance to learn about special effects make-up, ready for the performance at 4.30pm. At 5pm the Kane and Abel Magic Show brings two of the country’s hottest young comedy magicians to Bishop’s Castle, with a free show for workshop participants and tickets costing £3 for parents and additional children.

If that’s not enough, the day ends with a showing of Coraline (PG), the animated film that has enchanted audiences all over the world. It begins at 7pm. All the bookings for the Halloween half term at SpArC can be made at the box office, on 01588 630321. The cost of each day is £10, or £25 for three days. Siblings pay £6 a day, or £18 for three days.

ABBEYFIELD ANNIVERSARY - On Sunday it will be 10 years since the doors of Abbeyfield House, Bishop’s Castle were opened to receive the first residents. Its committee and staff would like to invite people in the town to an Open House afternoon to help celebrate.

Jill Harrison, a committee member, said: “Tea will be served between 2pm and 5pm and we, together with our present residents, look forward to offering you a warm welcome.”
