MORE than 200 varieties of apple will be on display in Tenbury on Saturday.

They will be some of the star attractions of the annual AppleFest, which is expected to bring up to 5,000 people into the town.

People are also busy baking for an apple pie competition which is the latest new element of AppleFest – one of the biggest events in Tenbury’s year.

“There will be 220 different varieties of English apples on display in the marquee next to the Pump Rooms,” said Bernard Morgan, of Tenbury Events.

Two separate park and ride schemes have been put in place ready for the influx into the town. Shuttle buses will take visitors into and out of the town centre from the park and ride hubs at the Aspire Centre on the A456 and at Tenbury High School.

“We are hoping it is busy because this is a special year, as it is the 150th anniversary of the Bramley apple. The two-day AppleFest is important for the town but Saturday is the big day and this is when the display of apples will be on show.

“A feature of the AppleFest is how many visitors it brings into Tenbur y. We estimate that 60 per cent of the people who come to the festival are from the Black Country.”

Other attractions during the two days include craft and produce stalls, vintage tractors and cars, a barbecue, exhibitions, music and archery. There is also a four mile walk on Sunday, starting at 10.30am at the Pump Rooms.
