by Adrian Kibbler news@ludlowadvertiser.co.uk THE Ludlow in Bloom campaign has achieved the gold standard.

The results of the Heart of England in Bloom awards were announced in Pershore on Thursday.

In 2008, Ludlow just missed out on a gold and the team responsible for the town’s entry were determined to get back onto the elite list – and they did.

To put icing on the cake, Lower Broad Street Residents’ Association also picked up a merit award in the neighbourhood section.

Pat Gormley and Vivienne Parry went to Pershore to hear the results announced and to collect the award for the town, while Elaine Downes and Roma Jackson represented the Lower Broad Street residents.

In Tenbury, there had been hopes of a gold in the small town section but, in the end, the gardeners had to be content with silver gilt.

The Mayor of Ludlow, Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, praised the success of the campaign, which he said was good for the town.

“I am delighted. Ludlow has done well over the past few years and this has culminated in the success of winning a gold award,” he said.

Ludlow in Bloom holds its annual meeting at St Peter’s Church hall at 7pm on October 2. It will mark the start of planning for next year’s competition.
