ORGANISERS of Tenbury’s Britain in Bloom entry have praised the support of residents after the town scooped a silver gilt award, only narrowly missing out on gold.

The results of the competition were announced in Pershore on Thursday and, as well as Tenbury’s silver gilt in the small town section, there was a gold to celebrate in Ludlow in the town category.

Also in Ludlow, the Lower Broad Street Residents’ Association picked up a merit award in the neighbourhood section.

Janice Gluyas, chairman of Tenbury in Bloom, said the pointers were there for the town to also achieve the gold standard.

“The work carried out by the many volunteers and the children of both Tenbury and Burford primary schools and Tenbury High School helped the town achieve silver gilt,” she said.

“The judges felt that the town lacked support from some shops as there was very little visual impact on judging day. Community involvement is very important to achieve the coveted gold award, which Tenbury missed by a very narrow margin this year.”

A fund-raising quiz night organised by Tenbury in Bloom will take place on October 2 at the Community Centre, Teme Street. Entry is £10 per team of four.
