NEW research into the history and archeology of Acton Scott will be revealed at a study day at the village’s historic working farm on Saturday.

The Acton Scott Heritage Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has enabled research into the history of the village to be carried out by a range of experts assisted by local volunteers.

The day, from 10am-4pm, will highlight the findings of this work including rare glimpses into the daily life of Acton Scott’s inhabitants, as well as research into the history of the landscape.

Visitors will also be able to see archaeology in action, as a visit to excavations on a Roman villa site is included.

The day has been organised by the Friends of Shropshire Archives and Shropshire Archaeological and Historical Society.

A Roman villa on the site was first discovered in 1817. The project has enabled further work to identify and look again at the site, with excavations taking place this month.The day also includes a guided walk as well as the opportunity to visit Acton Scott Working Farm, which has recently benefited from major redevelopments and improvements.

The cost is £7 for members of the Friends of Shropshire Archives and of Shropshire Archaeo-logical and Historical Society, and £12 for non-members. Places are still available. To book, contact Pat Kiernan on 01952 252814.
