ISN’T it a shame when rules overtake common sense? The County of Salop Steam Rally is well respected and very well attended. However, the organisers need to understand that they would not have such a spectacular two day show without the goodwill and support of the exhibitors.

Security at the gate is important to us all. However I have heard of countless instances where people have arrived with their exhibits and without a pass, or the right sort of pass, and have not been allowed in or struggled to gain access. This year, everyone I spoke to had a story to tell.

When is common sense going to come into it? I suspect it will be when the exhibitors have had enough and don’t wish to attend next year’s show. Then the County of Salop Steam Engine Society will have to rethink its stance and high-handed approach and make life a little bit easier on those who give up their time to make the show what it is today.

I am sure I would be joined by many others who would like to give thanks to Brian Smith, the organiser of the working field, for such an excellent display of working vintage vehicles.

I was very disappointed to hear that Brian has resigned and this year’s show is testament to the hard work he puts in to organising the working field.

Brian’s resignation is a great loss to both the County of Salop Steam Society and the countless individuals who have enjoyed the display on the working field over the bank holiday. Thank you Brian – your hard work and effort in bringing the working field to life every August is very much appreciated.
