SENIOR CITIZENS - Members of the Senior Citizens Club and friends had a very interesting tour of Cosford Air Museum as Mr Malcolm Bishop and his wife also joined the trip, and since Malcolm used to work at Cosford he was kind enough to conduct everyone around and explain the various aircraft developments over the years from the oldest aircraft on show through to the more modern with the development of the prop engines to the jet age.

To assist members of the coach party where the amount of walking was too much some had taken along their own electric transport and the organisers had carried a number of wheelchairs on the coach for those who wished to use them. Afterwards there was a lunch available which was much appreciated.

At the meeting last Friday, Mrs Pauline Lockley was on hand to explain to everyone what was available at the Tuesday Day Centre, held weekly in the URC Hall and run entirely by volunteers.

She had taken along a chair and cushions and a small table to show them so that everyone would know how comfortable the Day Centre visitors would be during the day, which runs from 9.30am - 3pm with transport available to and from the centre. Morning coffee and tea is served and a £5 hot lunch is available, and all are entertained through the day. The mobile library calls to provide reading matter and there are games to be played and many other forms of entertainment.

Birthdays are always celebrated with cards and cake. The centre is open to both men and women who wish to spend a day in the company of other people. It is worth noting that the Centre has been providing a day of entertainment to local people for more than 20 years and is still going strong. In the past the lunches were cooked by Mr and Mrs Frost until their retirement.

A vote of thanks was given and then tea was served and the raffle drawn. Lucky winners on this occasion were Doris Hauff, Grace Williams, Pauline Lockley, Olive Allington, Eileen Cadwallader and Penny Hargreave. The next club meeting will be on August 28, when the speaker will be Mrs Haro Hornfield, wife of the URC Minister.
