PARENTS AND TODDLERS - Today’s 10am-noon session includes a teddy bears’ picnic at the Clun Memorial Hall. Weather permitting we will be outside in the play area. Everyone is welcome with teddies and older siblings.

Light refreshments will be available or bring your lunch box if desired.

Also Dougie’s races on Sunday, July 26, at Clun Memorial Hall between 4pm and 6pm are open to everyone.

On Friday, July 31, Wayne Martin’s Blues Deluxe Band will be getting people in the mood for the carnival.

CARNIVAL - Clun Carnival and Show is on Saturday, August 1. The carnival procession starts at 1pm led by Knighton town crier Derek Price and the Knighton Town Silver Band, followed by the procession of historic vehicles (courtesy of Medlicott and Snow).

This year’s Carnival Queen, Alison Nicholls, with her attendant Holly Fothergill and flowergirls Lia Court and Charlotte Jones will be on one of the floats and finally there will be the fancy dress entries.

A new attraction on the showground this year is the City of Birmingham Gymnastics. There will be live bands, a fairground organ and dog show and Clun firefighters are hoping to ‘row the Channel’.

From Wednesday to Friday, July 29-31, there will a Round the Town Treasure Hunt, sponsored by W Davies and Son Newsagents, Clun.

Judging of hanging baskets and tubs around the town takes place on Thursday, July 30. On Wednesday there is a quiz at the White Horse Inn, Clun, starting at 9pm.

CLUN ART AND CRAFT SHOW - The show opens on Saturday at 10am. Everyone is invited to come for coffee. During the morning Chris Bean, a member of the Clun Drawing Group, will be painting portraits.

The show runs until Sunday, August 2, every day from 10am to 6pm except on August 2, when it closes at noon in the Hightown Community Room, Clun. Anyone is welcome to display or sell their work, amateurs and professionals alike. There will also be afternoon demonstrations by three wellknown local artists and throughout the week artists and craftspeople will be working in the hall during the afternoons so that they can be seen in action. CRICKET - Clun Cricket Club plays away against Moles CC on Sunday.

CONCERT - Newtown Male Voice Choir will be giving a concert at St George’s Church, Clun, on Sunday as part of Clun Carnival and Show celebrations. They will be joined by Corinne Donaldson and Jan Bowen.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and wine will be available. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Bright Flowers and Davies newsagents.

RAMBLERS - Clun Ramblers and Peramblers’ next evening walks are on Wednesday starting at 6pm from Clun Memorial Hall car park.

SKATE RAMP - The ramp will be returning to Clun Memorial Hall Car Park from July 31, until August 7.

NEWCASTLE GARDEN SOCIETY - The society’s day trip is on August 9 to Snowshill, a National Trust house and garden near Broadway.

The coach departs Newcastle Community Centre at 8.30am, and Clun at 8.40am. Cost of coach and admission is £17.50 members, £20 non-members. BARBECUE - Upper Clun Community Wildlife Group is holding a summer barbecue on August 15, at 7.15pm at The Anchor Inn for members and everyone else interested in wildlife, or just having a good time. Admission by ticket, £7.50, which must be obtained by August 10 from secretary Sallie Pittam, Tawny Cottage, Clunton SY7 OHP or call 01588 660327. Make cheques payable to Upper Clun Community Wildlife Group. A vegetarian option can be ordered.

NEWCASTLE SHOW - The second Newcastle Village Show will be on Saturday, September 5. Last year’s proved so successful the organiser, Newcastle and District Garden Society, has decided to extend onto the Millennium Green as well as using the community centre. They have been successful in obtaining a grant to have made some old fashioned games such as hoopla, splat the rat and so on.

The society is also appealing for help on the day either as stewards, helping on the various stalls or selling raffle tickets. Raffle donations and any surplus plants you might have spare will also be welcome. Schedules are almost ready and will be available at several places in Newcastle and Clun.
