THE owners of Ludlow ’s green burial ground have forged a close tie with Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
Lin and Roger Dalton have promised to give 10 per cent of the cost of each plot sold to the trust and also plan to bequeath the site to the trust to ensure it is looked after appropriately in perpetuity.
Ludford Park Meadow of Remembrance is a green burial ground in a tranquil wild flower meadow on the edge of town. A survey by the trust’s botanist revealed no fewer than 56 plant species, including musk mallow, yellow rattle, red campion and ox-eye daisies.
“Many people find the experience of a municipal crematorium rather soulless and not everyone wants a churchyard burial,” said John Hughes, Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s development manager.
“Green burials offer the opportunity to claim back and celebrate death as part of our natural life process.
“Ludford Park’s flower-filled meadow is a wonderful affirmation of life continuing.”
An open day will be held at Ludford Park on Sunday from 2-5pm. There will be a chance to talk to Lin and Roger Dalton, walk around the meadow and join a short walk through Whitcliffe Common with geologist Liz Etheridge.
