THE Queen has approved the nomination of Alistair Magowan, Archdeacon of Dorset, to be the next Bishop of Ludlow.
Aged 54, Alistair Magowan grew up in Malvern, went to school in Worcester and studied animal sciences at Leeds University. He trained for the ministry in Bristol, completing an Oxford Master’s degree in theology in 2002.
Ordained in 1981, he served as assistant curate at Owlerton in the Diocese of Sheffield, before moving to Durham in 1984 as chaplain to St Aidan’s College and assistant curate at St Nicholas’.
From 1989 he was Vicar of Egham and Rural Dean of Runnymede in the Diocese of Guildford, before becoming Archdeacon of Dorset in 2000.
He will be consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, in St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on Tuesday, September 29, at 11am. A service of welcome in St Laurence’s Church Ludlow, is on October 4.
