A CARNIVAL atmosphere took over in Church Stretton as the town celebrated its annual festival.

The event is one of the biggest in the calendar as it gives Church Stretton the chance to let its hair down and also provide a showcase for visitors.

One of the great attractions was a steam engine parade and lovers of cars were able to see a 1926 Austin Seven Top Hat saloon.

People crowded into the town square for live entertainment and there were also performances of street theatre from the Shropshire Youth Theatre.

West Mercia police also exhibited at the festival and a charity collection was made for the Midlands Air Ambulance.
