A BIRD lover from Herefordshire who died in an Asian paradise has been remembered in a forest near Presteigne.
Friends of Miles “birdman” Baddeley have unveiled a carved bench in honour of the naturalist, who died in 2004.
The bench has been placed on the Mortimer Trail and features carvings of the woodland birds which Miles looked after.
Miles was a world-renowned wildlife expert who died in a motorcycle accident in Langkawi, near Malaysia.
He moved to north Herefordshire in the 70s and maintained dozens of bird-nesting boxes in the forests surrounding Wapley Hill.
His friends and widow, Gie, commissioned Ludlow woodcarver Dave Bytheway to make a bench commemorating his work.
The bench was unveiled early this week and includes a planter, where Gie placed woodland bulbs and lilies.
