AN emergency shelter for Tenbury residents affected by flooding has been shut down.

Just two people attended the refuge centre, set-up on St Michael’s Common, and it was closed this morning.

The rainfall is expected to ease over the weekend although the A456 at Burford is still closed at the Teme Street junction because of flooding.

“The situation is gradually improving,” said Sergeant Matthew Hooley of Worcester Police.

“The emergency shelter was used by two people last night but there was no evacuation of the town itself.

“We are on standby but Tenbury residents have been managing the situation themselves very well,” he added.
