FIRE crews were scrambled to a barn fire in the early hours of this morning (October 4).

Six fire engines and other support units were sent to Milson, near Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow, at 4.42am.

Crews were sent from Tenbury, Bishop's Castle, Church Stretton, Cleobury Mortimer, Craven Arms, Much Wenlock, Newport, Telford, Tweedale and Bridgnorth, with some of the fire stations posting dramatic pictures on their social media.

Pictures show flames reaching high into the skies with smoke billowing from a barn.

A spokesperson for Tenbury Fire Station said: "We were tasked with providing water to the fire ground appliance and getting the hydrant set in, so they had a constant flow of water to the fire ground. Once others arrived on scene, we were then released from the incident and back to station."

Bridgnorth Fire Station also posted about the incident, writing on Facebook: "Alerted at 4.45am along with colleagues from across the south of the county, we are currently in attendance at a large barn fire at Milson. We have both our major appliance and water carrier in attendance."

The crews attending included incident command, the light pumping unit, the water carrier and the welfare unit. Operations and safety officers were also there.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "At 4.42am on Wednesday, 4 October, 2023, SFRS control received a call reporting a fire classified as a barn fire in Cleobury Mortimer.

"Six fire appliances were from Bishops Castle, Bridgnorth, Church Stretton, Cleobury Mortimer, Craven Arms, Much Wenlock, Newport, Telford and Tweedale. Operations and safety officers were in attendance. The police did not attend the scene."
