A CRASH driver failed to stop after driving without due care and attention, a court has heard.

Spencer Cornes admitted charges of driving without a licence, without insurance, without due care and attention, and failing to stop after a crash when he appeared before magistrates in Telford in May.

The court heard from prosecutor Jo Fox that Cornes had driven a Renault Clio without due care and attention on a country lane between Albury and Broome in Craven Arms on October 21.

He was involved in a crash which caused damage to another vehicle, a Mitsubishi Eclipse, in that lane, the court heard, but failed to stop at the scene.

Checks revealed that the 19-year-old did not hold a licence and did not have a third party insurance policy in place at the time.

Cornes, of Coronation Road, Craven Arms, was handed a six-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work and received eight penalty points.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £350 to the Mitsubishi owner, and prosecution costs of £135.
