PRINCIPAL Vicki Dean and her team have pledged to work tirelessly to make improvements after the Tenbury High School Ormiston Academy was rated inadequate by education watchdog Ofsted.

The academy has received an overall rating of ‘Inadequate’, having been judged to require improvement in three categories, but with an inadequate judgement in the ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’ category.

Following inspections in the autumn of 2022 and in February the school was found to need to improve the quality of its education, its personal development and leadership.

The inspectors say that behaviour is improving but there can be unacceptable behaviour in some classes, pushing and shoving in corridors with stairwells occasionally unsafe. They found that staff do not routinely challenge unacceptable behaviour.

“Throughout this academic year, and following our Ofsted inspection, we have remained unwavering in our commitment to rapidly improve our school so it not only meets but exceeds the high expectations we set for ourselves and the students we are proud to serve,” said Mrs Dean.

“We are clear that we have a lot of work to do, and some of the actions we are undertaking will take time to embed, but we are pleased that the strategies and initiatives we have already identified and implemented are delivering positive impact, and that Ofsted has recognised this in their report.

“We have a strong ethos at THOA to deliver high achievement and outstanding care for our students, and we are actively collaborating with our whole school community including students, staff, parents, and wider stakeholders, to help support the positive direction of our academy.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support and collaboration so far, as the work we have achieved so far is making a difference. I look forward to continuing to work tirelessly with the team to drive and attain the further improvement and positive impact we have set out in our robust action plan.”

At the last inspection that took place in 2017, the school was rated as good.
