RICHARD Huffer, the Liberal Democrat Shropshire councillor for Clee and Ludlow’s Conservative MP Philip Dunne agree there needs to be more clarity on solar energy.
Both agree that solar power plays an important part in reducing carbon emissions and that there are also issues around solar farms in rural areas and the potential loss of good agricultural land to make way for panels. Mr Huffer says that there is need for clearer guidance and Mr Dunne, also recognises the issue. This follows plans for solar farms in Greete.
“The Environmental Audit Committee, which I chair launched an inquiry this month into the role of solar energy in our journey to net zero. We are calling for evidence to be submitted on a raft of questions,” said Mr Dunne. “But crucially for local communities, we will also be looking at whether the current planning guidance to protect productive agricultural land or areas of ecological value are sufficient.
