It is based on the words spoken by Jesus on the cross, Father forgive them, for they know not what they do'. The music combines sections in chant style, which have an Eastern feel, with part-writing in the spirit of Renaissance church music. It is very original in style, and builds a powerful devotional mood, yet is immediately singable and easy to learn. It is not necessary to be a fluent music reader, although some experience of choral singing is essential. Anyone interested to hear the piece is welcome to come to the free performance at 8.45."
