Three former students from the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford will play before performances of Unicorns, Almost - a new play by Owen Sheers, opening in Hay-on-Wye this month.

The Blind Bookworms Jazz Band project is funded by Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation and is led by former RNC students Ellie Wait, Sam Obigbesan and Rachel Starritt. The band have been learning about 1930s and 1940s jazz, with trips to the National Jazz Archive, the 100 years of jazz in Britain exhibition at Two Temple Place and live shows at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.

The Blind Bookworms Jazz Band will play live before the opening performances at Unicorns, Almost at The Swan Hotel in Hay. The play is about the life and work of WWII poet Keith Douglas and brings together the director, lead actor and sound designer from Owen’s recent, award-winning play Pink Mist.

Unicorns, Almost - a play by Owen Sheers is at The Swan Hotel, Hay-on-Wye from May 24 to June 7. To book, visit unicornsalmost.com
