The Hay Chamber Music Festival brings a weekend of world class music to the famous market town of Hay-on-Wye.
The three-day festival of chamber music features the internationally acclaimed Fitzwilliam String Quartet, the Dragonfly Trio, Susie Meszaros and pianist Anna Tilbrook, to play in a series of concerts over the weekend at various venues and including works by Schubert, Britten, Shostakovitch, Purcell, Glazunov and Mozart.
Prior to a Schubertiade concert on the Friday evening, Professor Brian Newbould, composer, conductor and author of Schubert: The Music and the Man, will join the Fitzwilliam String Quartet in a pre-concert conversation on Schubert at The Swan Hotel.
The programme also includes on the Saturday afternoon, a showing at Booth's Bookshop Cinema, of the eminent filmmaker John Bridcut’s film “Britten’s End Game” on Britten’s final years, commissioned by the BBC, and an opportunity to discuss this with John Bridcut himself and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet who are featured in the film.
On the Sunday, the programme will include a performance by Anna Tilbrook of two Mozart piano concertos with accompaniment by string quartet in a chamber arrangement by Mozart himself.
