BURGHILL Valley Golf Club narrowly missed out on defending their Hargrove Trophy.

Their team had to win the second leg at Shrewsbury after the first leg was halved.

Leading the way were Pete Lockett and Ricardo Lloyd, who faced Tom Kerr and Barry Ruddick.

The latter eventually won the match, leaving Burghill Valley needing to win both their second and third matches to lift the trophy.

Third off were Ed Morley and Kris Jones playing against Nick Evans and Tim Corfield.

The Burghill Pair raced into a 3up lead through nine holes, eventually finishing 5up.

But the drama was taking place in the middle game with a half potentially going to be enough to get into a play-off.

The Burghill Pair of Matt Harrison and Elliott Buck battled back from three down through 14 against a strong opposition of Sean McArthy and Jamie Hancock to take their match down the last.

With both teams finding the fairway off the tee and their second shots finding the green, the Burghill pair needed a birdie to secure a half with the final game stood on the tee.

A great effort from Harrison slid by the hole leaving McArthy a putt for a 1up victory and the win for Shrewsbury which he slotted home to give the home club their first victory since 1960.
