POLICE were called to a bus which had pulled over in a South Herefordshire village following an assault onboard.

The number 33 bus had to pull over in St Weonards on Friday night at around 6pm following concern for the safety of a woman, who was a passenger.

Police officers were called to the scene, including the Operational Patrol Unit which provides armed/roads policing for Herefordshire.

A police spokesman said: "A 28-year-old man from Hereford was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, common assault and committing a section 4 public order offence."

He has been granted police bail until December.

He reportedly attacked a female passenger onboard the bus, who he was travelling with.

An ambulance attended the scene but nobody was taken to hospital.

The Ross-on-Wye to Hereford bus was on a diversion route due to a road accident on the A49 near Harewood End.
