HEREFORDSHIRE Sport are on the hunt for the county’s top sports people of 2017.

Having originated in 1978, this year’s awards are the 39th time Herefordshire Sport have hosted them.

The award provides sports organisations or individuals with the opportunity to nominate people who have had success, reached a milestone or supported community sport in 2017.

There are 12 categories covering senior and junior individuals and teams, disabled sports persons, coaches, long service and volunteering in a supportive role, community clubs and primary schools.

Last year’s sportsman of the year, Sascha Kindred, won’t be in the running to win his third award in a row.

He retired last year after winning another gold medal in the 200m individual medley in Rio.

Clara Evans won the 2016 sportswoman of the year prize after she became Welsh Champion at both 10km and half-marathon distances.

Westfields Football Club had a great night at last year’s awards, winning team of the year, while their head coach, Andy Bevan picked up the coach of the year award.

Nominations can be made by any individual or organisations, but the proposal must be seconded and verifiable.

Email Herefordshire Sport secretary Bryan White at bryanwhite734@gmail.com for an official nomination form and any more information about the awards.

Nominations are assessed by the adjudication panel of Herefordshire Sport and then handed out at a presentation evening in the New Year.
