LUDLOW Hockey Club produced a dazzling second half performance to take the spoils in their latest West Midlands Premier clash.

Trailing by three goals at neighbours Shrewsbury at the end of a disappointing opening half, the visitors fought back to win 4-3 with Ryan Fellows scoring a dramatic late winner.

It took the experienced home side 15 minutes to make the breakthrough before two more goals in the final ten minutes of the half put them in the driving seat.

But Ludlow began the second period stronger and within minutes forced a penalty corner from which captain Vijay Chumber scored past a diving Shrewsbury keeper.

Shrewsbury took the restart only for Ludlow to steal the ball back and from a fast counter-attack and a number of penalty corners, the referee awarded a penalty stroke which Gavin Hughes scored.

Ludlow’s comeback continued when Chumber converted another penalty corner and it looked as though the points would be shared.

That was until new signing Fellows took the ball off a Shrewsbury stick on his own 25-metre line and sprinted three quarters of the pitch before lifting the ball over the advancing Shrewsbury keeper.

There was disappointment for Tenbury Ladies who lost 3-0 at home to Bromsgrove Ladies who were back in Division One of the Worcestershire League following their relegation last season.

In a physical encounter, Tenbury lost Catherine Mumford through injury early on and with no substitute to call on, this had a huge impact on the game.

Naomi Burgoyne was threatening up front earning a number of penalty corners but the home side were unable to capitalise.

Bromsgrove took the lead midway through the first half and doubled it shortly before half-time. Tenbury rallied after the break and continued to press but could not find the net and the visitors scored a disputed third in the final five minutes.

There was better news from Tenbury Ladies 2nds who continued their unbeaten run by winning 2-0 at Pickwick Kings Heath Ladies.

Both goals were scored by Lisa Stokes after some dream hockey from the young side for whom Verity Van Straaten was dominant in midfield while Hettie Wood and Lottie Raybould were amazing out wide. Attacker Izzy Griffiths and defender Amelia Porter also impressed.
