Jack Perry hit an unbeaten 44 to help Bishops Castle to a winning draw against Wellington 3rds in Division Two of the Shropshire Cricket League.

In a game reduced to 30 overs, runs had been hard to find until Richard Fifield (37no) and Perry guided them to 171-6.

In reply, some excellent bowling from skipper Thomas Moulder (3-17) had the home side in all sorts of trouble with Steve Pitchford the only one to offer any resistance. He scored an unbeaten 59 but Wellington reached just 126-5.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Church Stretton lost by seven wickets to Church Aston in another game reduced to 30 overs.

Thomas Crump top scored with 25 as the hosts made 119-8 but the visitors eased to victory with seven overs to spare.

Corvedale held on for a losing draw at home to St Georges 3rds in Division Three and a mighty 125 from Chris Ammonds could not stop Ludlow 2nds from suffering a five wicket defeat against Newtown.

Skipper Zack Yarranton hit 66 for Tenbury but it wasn’t quite enough to secure the win at Alveley to keep their slim Worcestershire League Division Four promotion hopes alive.

The captain is now hoping his side can hold on to third place as they round off the season at home to West Malvern – their nearest challengers who are 11 point adrift.

Rain disrupted the proceedings at Alveley and with more showers forecast, the visitors looked to get some quick runs on the board.

But while Yarranton led the way with the bat, others struggled to add to the tally with Matt Jones (21) and Chris Giles (17) the next best as Tenbury were dismissed for 214.

Alveley made a slow start in reply and with regular wickets falling to Aaron Morris, Rob Farrar, Jones and Yarranton, they finished on 166-9 handing a winning draw to their visitors.
