RUNS proved hard to come by for many of our sides in the Shropshire League but Bishops Castle posted enough to win their Division Two match at home to Wheaton Aston by 34 runs.

Batting first, just two players made double figures for Castle – Jack Purkis (34) and Tom Moulder 22. Thankfully, 24 extras helped them to 112-9 from their 40 overs.

Richard Powell then took 5-39 and Moulder 3-28 as the visitors were dismissed for 78.

Elsewhere in the division, Church Stretton had a day to forget as they suffered a 210-run mauling by visitors Alscott.

And yet it was a bittersweet day for bowler Edward Groom who took 5-25 as Alscott declared on 246-9. That proved well out of reach for Stretton who were all out for 36.

In Division Three, Corvedale lost by ten wickets at home to Chelmarsh having been skittled out for just 47 while Ludlow 3rds had a winning draw at home to Trysull & Seisdon.

Innings of the day came from Sam Roberts who hit an unbeaten 210 as Ludlow 2nds posted 311-1 at home to Iscoyd & Fenns Bank, enough for a 141-run win.
