Mamble-cum-Bayton WI 1917-2017

100th Birthday Party.

Mamble village hall on Monday, August 7 saw members of the WI gather to celebrate 100 years since its formation in 1917.

The village hall, the meeting place of the WI for those 100 years was prettily decorated with bunting, flowers and the Institute’s treasured curtains that were designed and made for an exhibition in 1933.

In true WI tradition there was a large table of delicious teatime treats.

President Mrs Val Evans welcomed everyone to the birthday party, among them Mrs Marjorie Whiting the Worcestershire Federation Chairman.

Members and guests then enjoyed an entertaining afternoon of lively music, afternoon tea, a quiz, a raffle and a display of items from the Institute's history including a reading from the minutes of the first inaugural meeting in 1917.

For a keepsake and for the history books of the future, a group photograph of members was taken, and one of Mrs Patricia Trow our longest-serving member cutting a two-tier birthday cake.

We are very proud of our history of 100 years in the community and that we can still meet in the same beautifully refurbished village hall.
